Nestled along the western shore of Lake Como, Mistral Restaurant at Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio is a true gem of refined hospitality. Set within one of the lake’s most prestigious five-star luxury hotels, the restaurant combines elegant interiors with exceptional outdoor spaces. Its lakeside veranda and the adjoining garden overlooking the private pier are among the venue’s most distinctive features, creating an enchanting setting that attracts guests from all over the world.
In close collaboration with the design team at Studio Storage, LightScene Studio reimagined the lighting of the restaurant’s outdoor areas, including the internal circulation corridors and the lake-facing terrace, bringing a renewed sense of depth, warmth and brilliance to the entire venue.
Conceived as a bespoke lighting intervention, the project was designed to enhance the restaurant’s refined materials and finishes while reinforcing the overarching sense of luxury, comfort and well-being that defines high-end hospitality. From the earliest design stages, particular emphasis was placed on creating carefully orchestrated lighting scenes, tailored not only to the changing moods of the day but also to the different seasons, each bringing its own distinctive palette of colours, atmospheres and reflections to the ever-changing landscape of Lake Como.
The selection of light sources was driven by the need to achieve a balanced interplay of contrast and precision, with focused illumination on dining tables and service areas, while ensuring the flexibility required to accommodate the restaurant’s different layouts and configurations. A further design challenge arose from the installation of a new ceiling structure, which called for bespoke lighting fixtures developed in close collaboration with the architects, designers and manufacturers to achieve seamless integration between lighting and architecture.
The result is a sophisticated interplay of soft ambient light and carefully defined accents, creating an atmosphere that evolves throughout the day, adapts to the operational needs of the restaurant staff and, above all, enhances the comfort and well-being of every guest.
